Awesome, thy name is Griffball

Let me paint a picture for you, if you’ll indulge me.

You’re standing in an empty warehouse. Well, it’s almost empty. To your left and right are three teammates; on the opposite side of the room are four of your opponents. In your hand you hold a large hammer and attached to your belt you have the hilt of an energy sword, humming with power waiting to be unleashed. In the very middle of the room is a bomb and behind your enemies you see a goal.

“Assault” rings out around the arena and you charge forward, hammer at the ready just waiting to deliver a bone cracking blow. Closer and closer you get to the middle of the room, your teammates by your side, and then you clash.

The opening exchanges are always the most brutal, not knowing if it is friend or foe that actually strikes you down or that you strike yourself adds another element to the dance, but you swing and swing until there is no-one else. A quick look tells you that your all clear and you rush forward, picking up the bomb. Backtracking behind the safety net of your allies you feel your armour pulsate, you feel stronger, quicker.

In a wedge, with you at the back you move up against your enemy, teammates at the ready and the fight begins again. Someone rushes at you and moving like a Gazelle you sprint past them, but someone else appears in your way. With all your might you thrust your fist into his chest, knocking him down, lifeless.

Stepping over the broken body you continue sprinting, knowing nothing of fatigue or pain and focussing on only one thing, the goal in front of you. An endless stream of them come at you now, but you are not alone as again your allies come to your aid, some with their swords, some with hammers but all swinging rapidly.

The way opens in front of you and you can see your destination and then it hits you. Like a freight train the hammer slams you in the side and you are knocked off course, flying through the air and disoriented its all you can do to hold onto the bomb but you do. With renewed vigour you push on, always fighting, always running.

Barging your way through you finally get to the goal, plant the bomb and sprint away. A second later a huge explosion rings out across the warehouse and the godly voice from above speaks out, “Bomb detonated.” You rejoice but the voice continues, “Round over”.

It begins again. This is Griffball.

It is a lot of fun. What I want to try and do is use Forge and create a bigger arena on a differet map, so the player limit could be increased from four to six or even eight. That would be epic.

What I was thinking is maybe Sandtrap, creating a perimiter that you couldn’t get out of and making a stage type of entrence like you see in the WWE, complete with a ramp and everything.

It’d also be cool to have the weapons spawn in like 10 seconds after the start of the game and spawn the players with nothing, so people are waiting. Also I’d have to spawn the bomb in 15 seconds after the start of the match, which is five seconds after the weapons spawn.

Alas my vision for a grander Griffball may not actually be feasable, but I’ll give it a try.
