One step forward, two steps back; COD 5 to be developed by Treyarch

And it’s set in WWII again! I cannot understand this decision, COD 4 is fantastic, a game of the year contender. Infinity Ward know exactly what they are doing and they have ressurected the franchise. Why then do Activision hand it over to Treyarch who made the below average COD 3 AND set it back in the World War II time period. Though it technically has not been announced that it is going to be in WWII they may as well have (see source).

I will quite probably not get Call of Duty 5 now, bravo Activision.

  1. The reason they do it this way is to give IW more time to work on the new engine and the next ‘proper’ iteration of the franchise. Theres a simple rule with the COD series, and that is to only buy the even games.. ie, 2,4 and probably 6.

  2. Well Activision’s loyalty to Treyarch is unmatched they have made the Call Of Duty games with Infinity Ward in a pattern but Call Of Duty 3 multiplayer was surprisingly great and I like the WW2 setting but I will get Call Of Duty 4 eventually.

  3. cod5 failsssss

  4. Blame publisher greed, because that is exactly why this happens.

  5. COD4 sux. At least treacharch by this time last year fixed their connection problems, Infinity Ward’s COD4 still has the same old connection problems from COD2. However there have been some improvement to 4, there was nothing major. COD2 single player was the best but COD3 so far is the best online with the exception of the aggravating 10 sec respond time. I’m looking forward to 5 being set in WWII, and I’m sure they will make massive improvements to COD5 over COD3.

  6. I’m sure COD 5 will be largley improved to COD 3 mate, but the thing is COD 4 with its change of setting really revitalised the series and many people, myself included, were looking forward to continuing the new setting with COD 5. And while COD 3 may have better connections than COD 4 (something I fully expect IW to fix), IW is a far better developer than Treyarch.

  7. I love the new scenery of Cod4 It brings more emotion and you can relate to it it better. It really brings you into the game. The better weapons, scenery and perks make it so much cooler. Another world war II game will los the diversity of the weapons and the realitism

  8. I think that COD4 came out everyone wanted it even me my self and,I think that the people who make COD4 should continue with modern Warfair and the online play

  9. jesus..can all devopers just make one war game this year that is not set in wwI OR wwII please..stop playing the same stupid shit over and over again…im glad that all real veterans are almost dead..plz keep it modern already..god..same useless bullshit..wish someone would grow some balls and make something outside of the box

  10. As a history buff I really enjoy a good WW2 game- what COD was built on.

  11. accually i think it might be good. look at it, its gonna have better graphics than cod 4. its based on WWII well a lot of people love wwII and its gonna have awesome weapons, so it might be pretty good. but after this they will prob make another modern warfare one

  12. couldn’t have put it better myself. It REALLY IS one step forward and two steps back. COULDN’T AGGREE MORE. I just cannot understand why they would go back to WW2 when COD 4 has been such a success. It really makes no sense to me and i would love to KnoW what they were thinking when they made the decision to return to WW2… AGAIN!! i JUST CANNOT SEE HOW IT CAN POSSIBLY BE AS GOOD AS COD 4
